 New Season Wed 21stAugust

I hope we are all fit and ready to get stuck in to fencing for the new season.  We are settling nicely into our new base at Gilbertson Park, which will include marking out fencing strips on the floor and using some video analysis. The first sessions for each of the venues are:

Gibby Park:       Wed 21StAugust 6.30 to 9.30

Brae:                  Sat 31sthAugust 10 to 12

Aith:                   Thursday Sept 5th7 to 9

 Club Meeting:

As the club continues to expand this season, it will be important to meet regularly to discuss various issues. This will include planning events, organizing things like club track suits, volunteering, refereeing, fundraising and trip planning. etc.

Can I suggest, if possible, parents come along at 6.30 this Wednesday (or at 10, on 31stfor Brae ones). Then we can have a chat, and include the kids, about will be happening this season and get their input on things like tracksuits etc. Then we can all decide on when would be good times and where to meet in future.

Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport

Course: Wed Sept 11th6 till 9pm Isleburgh House, Room 12

This is a new scheme and course, introduced this year, and for fencing, at least, is a requirement for coaches and recommended for anyone helping out at the club, especially if accompanying trips away. Please contact Phil if you wish to go, as the club has reserved places.

Fencing Club will be for the older ones only on that night.

 Social Night / Prize giving:

Please note, updated from previous email. The date for this is now Friday Sept 20thdue to unavailability of venue.

To help get the season under way and to welcome new members, we are holding our prize giving night this year on Friday Sept 20th at 7pm. The venue is yet to be confirmed but should be Lerwick Boating Club.

We will have the usual food, prize giving, raffle and quiz.  We will meet beforehand to organize food etc. – see above.

If you can let us know as soon as poss, if you can make it, so we know that there are no major clashes with other things.

 Events for the Season:

This season, we will continue to offer the chance for our fencers to travel away to develop, compete and meet fencers from south. This will work best if we can do as much forward planning as possible, including matching fencers with the best trip to suit them etc. I’ll be putting a list of events on the website calendar and list them on the events page of the website. I will try to discuss with everyone in the club which competitions would suit them best (this includes our own club fun competitions etc).

Before Christmas, the competitions we will be looking at are:

Highland Open, Elgin:  28/29thSept. a senior competition (13 yrs and over);  An excellent comp for a first senior competition for our 13 year olds and up.

Scottish Schools Championships, Linlithgow, 23rd/24thNovember, a new competition for our club, for Under14, O14-U16, 16&Over on the 1st of January 2019.

Possibility of further 24 er Linlithgow trips before Christmas

Look forward to seeing everyone as the season gets underway
