Aith Foil Fun Competition

After a long break from competitions due to COVID, it was great to get back to holding an event again. Aith Leisure Centre was the ventue, and 21 fencers braved the wintry weather to head out to the west side. The format for this Foil Fun competition was kept deliberately relaxed. This allowed all our beginners to experience how a competition is run, without feeling rushed or pressured. Our more expreienced fencers enjoyed getting back into the swing of a fencing event again.
Poules were organised to mix up our Brae and Lerwick fencers, where possible, and the afternoon continued with poule fencing, with no direct elimination or 'results'.
Any event for the club relies on volunteers, and thanks for everyone especially our referee volunteers who are coping with an extremely difficult task really well.
After Christmas, we will organise an epee event, and hopefully be looking forward to getting south to get back to taking part in competitions on the mainland.
