UPDATE Thursday Oct 3rd
Good weekend at the Highland Open photos and report soon
Remember fencing is on through the holidays at Brae and Gibby
News Date: 27/10/2022
I hope everyone had a good October break and are ready to get back to fencing. Some important information for you all. Before the break, we took a group of fencers down to the Hightland Senior Open, one of the main senior scottish competitions. Mhairi Gifford won the epee event and with the bronze in the foil event, won the overall 'Master of Arms' award. All our fencers performed well, especially as this was the first senior event for most of them.
Our top priority for the club is still to spend some time helping parents / fencers, or anyone interested in volunteering for the club.
The main roles we need to develop are Club session helpers to supervise fencers / equipment, referee and to help training games etc. I would like to tailor these to your preferences and arrange specific ‘training’ sessions outside on our club sessions. Space is extremely hard to come by in town but I will email to all, as and when we can get this started. Let me know anytime, of course, if you are interested in finding out more.
Now Fencing is getting fully back into action after COVID, British Fencing are doing a big drive on updating British Fencing memberships. They have made it a condition on running a club, that all participants must have a current British Fencing membership. It has also become a condition of a coach’s insurance etc. I can no longer join fencers, you now have to join individually. On the plus side, we have a healthy membership, and it can help in funding requests etc.
To join British Fencing, you will need to go to the British Fencing website Membership section:
If you have never joined British Fencing yourself yet:
( - most of our beginners), then click “membership types’ and click “introduction individual all ages” follow the directions and join British Fencing. Make sure you fill in all details including contact info so you get onto the system and get a prompt to move onto ‘starter’ membership after 3 months.
For existing members either current or lapsed:
You will need to click “Renew membership” and follow the steps. You should be directed to the membership website BF use and may be prompted to enter your membership number of just name etc.
New membership types.
I would strongly advise selecting ‘auto renew’ as it is a bit cheaper and they don’t send out reminders. The club will make sure to remind you to cancel your membership if you leave the club.
This is not the easiest website to negotiate so if you have problems let me know.
This will be a fun competition run from to 12 till 4pm at Aith Leisure Centre. Please put this in your diaries and more details to follow on the website under “events”. I would like to set out a series of these through the season and have been looking at tying in sponsorship / funding.
As Coach, I must be present at all club sessions. This therefore means we will always have a first aider present. However we have the chance for anyone wishing to help out with the club, or as it is so useful to have, to do a first aid course. Although this is a ‘sports’ course, it will cover all aspects of general first aid, which is invaluable in or out of the club. Let me know if you are interested and I will pass on details. It is in town on November 27th 9 till 5
