Fencing News 22nd Feb

 Events this year

I know we are in the height of our COVID times up here just now, but I have been looking ahead optimistically to plan some dates of events this year.

I really believe that enjoyment of our fencing is helped by having events and competitions to aim for and look forward to. We can now hopefully start looking ahead to getting back to normal. Listed below are some provisional dates to let you know what we are planning and this is a chance for you all to check out these dates and let us know what you think. The sooner I hear, the sooner we can rearrange any dates if not suitable for the majority.

1. Next Club competition

Sundays seem the best day and Aith Leisure Centre is ideal and has always worked well. The possible dates are either Sunday April 17th (in school hols) or April 24th. from 11 to 3pm

As always these competitions are adapted as needs be so that all level of fencers can take part, including juniors and adults and beginners to experienced fencers. Please let me know if one or the other date suits best so we can please the majority.

2. Club Championships

The proposed time to aim for our Club Championships in foil and epee (U18’s), will be mid to late June. This would be a good way to work towards the end of the season and would be shortly before the Orkney Trip which includes the Inter County Competition.

Date and Time to be confirmed.

3. Prize Giving Night

We would like to get back to having our annual prize giving / Socail Night and will aim to hold this neare the end of the season just after the Club Championships.

4. Orkney Trip

The club has had a long history of taking part in the North of Scotland Section Training and Fun Competition Weekend. For those who are new to this event, this is an excellent chance to get a weekend away and is ideal for  every level of fencer from complete beginner to adult experienced fencer. We stay as a group in a hostel and there is a combination of a fun competition (similar to our comps in Aith), along with various games and training.

Date:  With accommodation hard to book and to find a date acceptable to all clubs, we have found we have only one possible date in the summer:

Friday July 8th boat down to Orkney, with Sat and Sunday fencing, returning Sunday night, July 10th boat after a big group dinner

Let me know what you think and if this is new to you, ask me about it (phone or at club etc). More details will follow soon.

Competitions on the mainland are still only just starting back fully and so I will keep looking at when and where we can get our trips away to comps south going again. One definite competition we have committed to is the Highland Open (for 13 yr olds and over).  This is on the weekend of Sept 24th / 25th

Let me know what your’e plans are and ask away about any of the events planned.
